Accomplishments
After only its second year, Cristo Rey was granted recognition by the State of Illinois and accreditation by the North Central Association. Cristo Rey is also a member of the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (JSEA).
On July 31, 2000, Cristo Rey completed a $14 million capital campaign, which left the school with no debt from the construction of a new 23-classroom building. On November 23, 2003, Cristo Rey officially opened and dedicated its new $10.5 million multi-purpose building that includes a gymnasium, cafeteria, library/media center, and additional classroom and office space.
Daily attendance rate is 98% and the school has a less than 1% dropout rate.
82% of Cristo Rey graduates are pursuing post-secondary degrees.
The schools our graduates are attending include: Benedictine University, Brown University, Columbia College, Concordia University, DePaul University, Dominican University, John Carroll University, Illinois Institute of Art, Lewis University, Lincoln Technical Institute, Loyola University Chicago, Marquette University, Morton College, Mount Mary College, Northeastern Illinois University, Northwestern University, Robert Morris College, Roosevelt University, Saint Xavier University, Southern Illinois University, Triton College, the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and Xavier University.
100% of the Class of 2005, our eighth graduating class, was accepted to at least one college of choice (78% attended a 4-year institution and 22% attended a community college). Total financial aid and scholarships awarded to the Class of 2005 by universities was over one million dollars.
Cristo Rey has enrolled 525 students for the 2005-06 school year and the school has graduated eight classes with a total of 476 graduates.
Of those who took the Spanish Advanced Placement Test during each of our first nine years of existence, 80% scored a 3 or better, enabling them to obtain college credit.
Students performed 13,689 hours of community service during the 2004-05 SY, averaging to 27 hours per student. Service projects include the AIDS Walk, Amate House Serv-a-thon, Cathedral Shelter food baskets, Misericordia, Alivio Run for Health, Poder Adult Learning Center , and the Carol Robinson Center for Learning.
This school year our Corporate Internship Program is administering 125 full-time jobs at over 100 different firms in downtown Chicago . More than 30% of Cristo Rey students have been hired each summer to continue working at their Corporate Internship positions thereby continuing to build their work ethic and experience.
During the 2004-05 school year, approximately 95% of all students were ranked as "Good / Outstanding" by their respective supervisors. Students are reviewed each semester by their job site supervisors. Nearly 90% of all Corporate Sponsors renew their sponsorship each year.
