Databases:

The network that brings to you Discovery Channel brings Discovery Education’s unitedstreaming.  This database has articles, videos and music in a number of languages.  You can even learn the basics of speaking a few languages and more to come.  Find information on health, careers, science, math and a plethora more of sources at your fingertips.

This is the only database where you will need to create your own username and password.  However, first email Ms. Posadas at mposadas@cristorey.net for the New Username, enter the username and press go.  After you log, you can change the desired username to anything you find easier.  It does look like you are signing on as a teacher but it is not.  There is no need to put in your address unless you would like to do so.

SIRS Researcher not only provides great information on the most recent news, it also gives step-by-step instructions on how to cite your sources found in SIRSGREAT for writing persuasive papers!

To log on email Ms. Posadas at mposadas@cristorey.net for the Username and PW.  After you enter the Username and PW click on SIRS Products.  Then click on SIRS Knowledge Source to start searching the latest information on the latest news.

In addition to the databases that Cristo Rey offers, you have access to the dozens of databases that Chicago Public Library subscribes to also.  All you need is a Chicago Public Library card, which is free.  If you don’t have one or you lost your card, stop by the library to fill out an application to get a new one.

If you need help in using or searching this database or if you’ve never done a Boolean search come and ask your librarian.

“EBSCOhost databases are the most-used, premium online information resources for tens of thousands of institutions worldwide, representing millions of end-users.” You will be able to open a nonfiction book collection, a History Reference Center of more than 200,000 historical documents, maps, and photos and an Ultra Online Package that gives extensive access.

Use this 32-volume 2007 Encyclopedia Britannica-revised, updated and unrivaled at your fingertips. Find and read about a current feature topic or join an educational blog through Britannica.

For Usernames and Passwords for each database, email the librarian Ms. Marta Posadas at mposadas@cristorey.net.
