Dean's Office

Welcome to the Dean’s Office website.  Our goal as Deans is to help students become men and women for others by being responsible young adults who recognize that their actions have consequences.  We strive to work with the students and their families to make sure we are doing everything possible to help the students achieve maximum success here at Cristo Rey.

Dress Code:

The Dress Code at Cristo Rey requires every student to dress in a professional, modest, conservative, and safe manner.

  • Male students must wear dress pants, dress shoes, a button-down long-sleeve dress shirt with a tie, and a belt.
  • Female students must wear a button-down dress blouse with dress pants or a skirt and dress shoes.
  • Hair styles, make-up, and jewelry should be professional and conservative at all times.

For further details, please see the student handbook.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance at school and CIP is very important toward the success of the Cristo Rey student.  Therefore, we have strict attendance guidelines that all students are required to follow.

  • The school day begins promptly at 8:00am.  Any student that arrives to school after 8:00am will be considered tardy and will receive a detention.
  • Any student that arrives tardy to school twice in one week will receive a Saturday detention.
  • Unforeseen Absences:  A parent or legal guardian should call the school at (773) 890-6800 before 9:00am to explain why his/her daughter/son is not going to be able to come to school.  Upon returning to school the next day, the student must present an absence note to the front desk before 8:00am from the parent/guardian stating the reason for the absence.  If a student does not turn in the absence note, they will receive a detention.
  • Foreseen Absences:  Students must get a Foreseen Absence Form from the Deans before the date of the absence which all of their teachers must sign.  They will turn in the completed Foreseen Absence Form to the front desk before their absence.  Upon returning to school, they must still bring an absence note from their parents and turn it in to the front desk.
  • School ends at 3:30pm.  If a student must leave early for any reason, his/her legal guardian must pick them up to release them from school.

 Disciplinary Consequences:

The discipline system used at Cristo Rey provides an objective and cumulative record of a student’s demonstration of behavior as well as an attempt to right those behaviors that may inflict harm to the student’s potential and merit.

Disciplinary action will be taken when a student commits an infraction deemed inappropriate by a faculty or staff member.  Any employee of the school has the right to give a disciplinary consequence.

There are four steps in the Progressive Discipline model used at Cristo Rey:

  • Daily Detentions:
  • Before school from 7:00 – 7:30am daily
  • Take precedence over any other school activity
  • Will be served the morning after the infraction
  • If a student misses one detention, they will receive another one; if they miss one of the next two, they will receive a Saturday detention
  • Cronic detentions will be handled by the Deans office and will most likely result in further disciplinary consequences
  • Saturday Detentions:
  • Issued through the Dean’s Office and are reserved for serious infractions
  • Every other Saturday from 8:00 – 11:00am
  • Parents will be notified by a phone call before the date of the detention
  • If a student misses a Saturday detention, they will be assigned another Saturday detention in addition to still serving the one they owe.
  • Repeated Saturday detentions are grounds for further and more severe consequences.
  • Suspensions:
  • Suspension is a grave penalty imposed for very serious offenses
  • May be an in-school or out-of-school detention at the discretion of the Deans
  • Parents will be called to be notified of the suspension and a parent conference will take place before student is allowed to return to class
  • Academic work missed during a suspension may not be made up
  • Repeated suspensions will lead to expulsion
  • Expulsions: the loss of one’s privilege to attend Cristo Rey.  Normally, this would be the last step taken after following the discipline procedures listed above.  Certain serious actions may result in immediate expulsion.

 Daily Detention System

One disciplinary infraction results in one daily detention.  If a student misses that daily detention, they receive another one.  Both detentions then are to be served consecutively.  If a student misses either of the two consecutive detentions, they will then receive a Saturday detention.   See chart below:
