Student Leadership & Activities
Mission

The Student Leadership & Activities Program
at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School offers students opportunities to participate
in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enable them to become “Women and
Men for Others” who demonstrate the qualities of our graduates: open to growth, religious, intellectually competent, loving, committed to justice, and work experienced. Visit the
List of SLA Clubs page to see a complete list of the clubs offered at Cristo Rey. If you have questions or ideas related to student leadership and activities at Cristo Rey, please contact John DeCostanza at jdecostanza@cristorey.net.
Overview

Over 250 students participate in activities, clubs, and events linked to Student Leadership and Activities during the
school year. Whether students are off camping in one of Illinois or Indiana’s
state parks, organizing popcorn sales to fund a trip, debating the finer points of American political life, or simply hanging out with their friends after school waiting
for play practice to begin, Student Leadership and Activities provides a safe, fun, and enriching environment for Cristo Rey’s finest students outside of the classroom.
Student Leadership and Activities encompasses three primary areas of student involvement. First, students participated in chartered clubs that hold regular meetings and student-organized events. Second, students participate in one-time trips and activities that require preparation, fundraising, and a significant amount of student commitment. Finally, students benefit from one time events that build their leadership skills and honor their hard work such as the Student Activities Fair, the Annual Leadership Summit, and the Annual Activities & Awards Banquet.

Alternative spring break trip (Saturday 3/31 to Friday 4/6—APPROX DATES): CRJHS has just accepted an invitation to be part of the post-Katrina restoration efforts in Phoenix, LA (about an hour from “N’awlans”) during our spring break. We will send a group of 8-10 students and 2-4 staff members to work alongside Minister Tyronne Edwards and the Zion Travelers Church as they live the mystery of death and resurrection in a very concrete way. It is sure to be a week of simple living, hard work, and rich celebration.

 |
Cristo Rey Urban Service Teams (variable dates/times during break): CRUST is focused, time-limited local service experiences for students and staff during the week of Spring Break. Specific projects will be chosen based on student/staff interest and availability so let me know what/when would work for you.
