HOURS:

Monday thru Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Saturday (except holiday weekends and summers)
from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

MISSION:

The mission of the library is the following:

  • Establish a supportive environment for individual and group exploration of ideas.
  • Provide vast print and non-print resources to enrich library users.
  • Support the curriculum of the school.
  • Instruct students how to access, evaluate and utilize information.
  • Develop programs and services for the Cristo Rey community.

COLLECTION:

The library has 12,000+ books, 500+ DVD’s and audiobooks, 40 print magazines / newspapers, 10 online research tools, 6 eReaders, a lab with 30 computers, kiosk computer workstations, 3 study rooms, and seating for 50. Most items circulate for 2 weeks, and can be renewed.

POLICIES:

  • The library is a quiet study zone; loud noise is not allowed.
  • No food, drink, cell phones, or electronic devices.
  • All school rules are enforced in the library.
  • Please do not re-shelve books; we have carts for this.
  • Students may use the library before and after school, or with permission during asesoria. During class hours students must have a pass.
  • Please put chairs and garbage where they belong!

STAFF:

Mr. Remus is the librarian and Mrs. Posadas is the assistant librarian.

RESEARCH TOOLS:

The library subscribes to several online tools that assist with research and learning. This is our virtual library, and these items are available 24/7. To use any of the items listed below, click on the icon. If you are outside of the school building, you will need to enter an ID and/or password. See Mr. Remus or Mrs. Posadas to obtain these.

Delivered via the internet, these tools include reference works for background information; magazines, newspapers and journals for current research; audio, visual, images, e-books and other multimedia sources. They are updated on a regular basis and the information comes from authoritative sources. We also subscribe to the bibliography tool NoodleBib.


CATALOG:

Click on this button to start your search in the library catalog, called Destiny. Search in here for books, audiobooks, and DVD’s. Each person has their own library account where you can renew items. Ask the librarians if you need help setting up your library account.

DATABASES (click on the icon to start):

Magazines, Newspapers, Reference, and Multimedia A full featured resource with more than 2,500 full-text magazines, newspapers, maps, pictures, etc. Includes Chicago Tribune back to 1985.
     
English Literature A resource that includes 3,000+ author biographies; 40 searchable full-text literature journals; full-text literary works; and other key criticism and reference sources.
     
World and U.S. History Contains historical reference material that covers 14 centuries of history, from ancient to modern, old world to new world.
     
Periódicos en español Con mas de 50 titulos de todas partes de Estados Unidos, incluye La Raza (Chicago) y La Opinión (Los Angeles), U.S. Hispanic Newsstand tiene noticias locales, nacionales, e internacionales desde la perspectiva hispanica.
     
Pro / con - current issues Debate any topic! OVIC gives viewpoints on the topic, as well as magazine, journal, and newspaper articles, primary sources, statistics, websites, etc.
     
Encyclopedia Comprehensive online edition of EB. Includes 90,000 articles and multimedia items. Also has a student dictionary, world atlas, and resources for teachers.
     
World statistics and info Statistics and demographics on 217 nations of the world. Also has country snapshots, comparisons, and ranked statistics. Create tables, charts, and export the information to spreadsheets!
     
U.S. primary source documents Online access to 2,100 documents such as speeches, essays, biographies, landmark court decisions, and editorials. Hear the important voices of America in their own words.


BIBLIOGRAPHY BUILDER:

Use NoodleBib to create a bibliography and note cards for your research paper! Your first time on the system you will need to create a personal ID. You can then use NoodleBib anywhere you have web access to create a bibliography (list), save it, print it, or share it online with your teacher.

 

MULTIMEDIA:

Download or play video or audio resources on all subjects. To get started, you will need to create your own username and password. See Mr. Remus or Mrs. Posadas for the passcode to get started.


PUBLIC LIBRARY RESOURCES:

Don’t forget that your public library is also a great resource! In addition to books, videos, and computers, you can access many online research sources with your library card. If you need help getting set up with a library card, please see one of the librarians.
