Making Waves for Cristo Rey

He did it! Br. Matt completed his 8 mile swim for Cristo Rey on August 18. Watch him share the story with WGN's Ray Cortopassi.

My name is Br. Matt Wooters SJ and this summer I am hoping to make a splash for Cristo Rey Jesuit High School's 25th anniversary! Cristo Rey has changed Jesuit education for the better. In the 25 years since Cristo Rey's founding, 37 more schools have opened based off of Cristo Rey in Chicago. In total, more than 20,000 scholars have been educated via this network. What started as a ripple on the southwest side of Chicago has turned into a massive wave of social change to break the cycle of poverty around the country.

To celebrate this sea change of hope, on August 18, I am going to swim from Loyola University to Ohio Street Beach near Navy Pier (eight miles!) to represent the trajectory of success for Cristo Rey students: to higher ed and then onto successful careers in business,  medicine, law, non-profits, and more.

Join me in celebrating this incredible school on its 25th anniversary!

With my big swim, I am boldly aiming to raise $25,000 for Cristo Rey.
Can you help me? Make a gift today!

You can also pledge to join me by swimming, running, biking your own eight miles (or whatever distance you choose, on your own time) to make waves for Cristo Rey. Join me!

Br. Matt's story:

Br. Matt Wooters is a Midwest Jesuit and Board Member at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Br. Matt has a bachelor's degree from John Carroll University, a master's in social work from Saint Louis University and a master's in theology from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. Br. Matt is a lifelong swimmer and believes that all of our gifts and talents come from God and can be used for the service of God's people (including insanely bold desires and swimming extreme distances!).
