News from Cristo Rey | June 2021 Cristo Rey's Class of 2021 Graduation
Dear Friends,
It finally happened. We wrapped the 20-21 school year and graduated 129 young women and men on Saturday afternoon. Witnessing the amazingly talented Class of 2021 walk across the stage was a personal highlight of my year – and one I will not soon forget.
As I write this to you today, beaming with pride for our students, I also have to share my utmost gratitude to the dedicated faculty and staff of Cristo Rey who made our students' success possible. I heard from the graduates on Saturday that there were times they wanted to quit – to give up – because the pressure was too much and the world around them seemed understandably too turbulent to bear.
Then, they quickly follow those words with an admission that they didn't give up because a teacher lifted them up with a motivating word. Or a counselor let them lean on them for support. Or a staff member encouraged them to keep going because we were ALL rooting for them.
It's those simple acts of kindness - and frankly, acts of love - that helped keep the spark alive in our Cristeros. As a professional staff, we are also a connected, compassionate community who show up to work daily to give our all for the students we serve. Gracias, amigos.
Read on to see other examples of love in action at Cristo Rey. Thank you and VIVA Cristo Rey!
