Our Lady of Guadalupe 2020
In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School presented a virtual Mass for Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Mass on December 12 presided by Cristo Rey's founding president, Fr. John Foley, S.J., with dramatization and music by Cristo Rey seniors, and a special performance by Mariachi Monumental de México.

Each year members of the senior class reenact the story of the Virgin Guadalupe appearing to Juan Diego in 1531 during Cristo Rey's annual Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass. This long-standing tradition celebrates the community’s Mexican heritage and is one of the most anticipated days of the school year. In 2020, it also serves as the launch for the school’s 25th Anniversary year. In years past, more than a thousand students, families, faculty, and supporters attend the Mass and celebration at the school in the gymnasium.
In this unprecedented year for the school and all of us, the Mass and dramatization was recorded and shared virtually for our entire community on December 12. Cristo Rey seniors and their families were invited to watch the service together - socially distanced in their own cars - before dawn on December 12 at ChiTown Movies in Pilsen, with a group of dedicated parents on hand to pass out programs and roses.
With so many Guadalupe celebrations canceled this year because of the pandemic, Cristo Rey was proud to provide a unique and special way for people to participate, while also giving the senior class the opportunity and experience to follow in their predecessors’ footsteps by reenacting the story and carrying on the Guadalupe tradition at Cristo Rey in Chicago.
