Mr. Tim Mitchell
This month, Cristo Rey highlights St. Stephen of Hungary Giving Society member and supporter for more than two decades, Mr. Tim Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell is a theology teacher at Loyola Academy and previously a teacher and Service Director at St. Ignatius College Prep.
How did you learn about Cristo Rey?
My relationship with Cristo Rey began during my time at St. Ignatius. I read "More Than a Dream" about Fr. Schaeffer's idea and founding of the Cristo Rey model. A couple years later when I became the Service Director, we began hosting service trips to St. Procopius. Fr. Sean O'Sullivan, S.J. was our contact there and he also worked at Cristo Rey. After moving to Loyola Academy, I continued to work with St. Procopius for three of their Kermes weeks. Pilsen is one of my favorite places.
What motivates you to give back?
My father always said you have to pay it forward in life. I was an Evans Scholar, so now I'm doing that. I methodically decide who to give money to and the Cristo Rey model is an awesome idea.
Why do you encourage others to give?
It has been awesome watching Cristo Rey get off the ground and become a model for the nation. I think the need for Cristo Rey will only increase. You're looking at schools like Ignatius and Loyola - and they do a good job with financial aid and their endowments - but there is more need in making Catholic education affordable for those without resources.
Mr. Mitchell’s work inside and outside of the classroom truly proves that he is a man for others. Thank you to donors like Mr. Mitchell who have already renewed their support for Cristo Rey, especially during these extraordinary times. As we gear up for our 25th anniversary celebration, please stay tuned for more stories about inspiring supporters like you who make an ever-lasting impact in the lives of our students.
