FAFSA Support

Dear families: 

We will host our next FAFSA Workshop on Tuesday, February 20 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Please review the list below to ensure that you are prepared for the workshop. 

 If both the student and designated parent(s)/guardian(s) have a verified FSA ID: 

  • Students should bring their electronic device and charger. 
  • Bring the documents listed below with you. 
    • Parent(s)/guardian(s) 2022 Federal Taxes 
    • Parent(s)/guardian(s) 2022 W-2's 
    • Student's 2022 Federal Taxes (if they filed taxes) 
    • Student's 2022 W-2's (if they worked a job aside from CWSP in 2022) 

 If designated parent(s)/guardian(s) have NOT created an FSA ID or at least one of the parents/guardians does not have a social security number: 

We do not recommend that you join us for a FAFSA workshop yet because you will not be able to submit. Even with verified accounts, if a parent does not have an SSN, students will not be able to submit their FAFSA. We will offer more workshops for families that cannot submit right now.  

In the meantime, we recommend the following: 

  • Keep trying to create the FSA ID! Some of our families have had success in creating their FSA IDs after numerous attempts. Some tips include: 
    • Trying on different devices 
    • Trying on different internet browsers 
    • Going “incognito” while in a browser 
  • To get their identity verified, parents can visit https://studentaid.gov/help-center/contact and click on “I’m a parent” and then click on “Email” under Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC). In the email, include that the parent is seeking a case number to verify their identity to use with the attestation form to create an FSA ID. 
  • After receiving the case number, families can complete this form: https://studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/attestation-and-validation-of-identity.pdf and submit the form and required documentation. 

Please know that the issues you are experiencing are likely not specific to you. Families, especially undocumented parents, all over the country are facing the same obstacles. We do not have all the solutions right now, but we are in this with you and will update you as we learn more. You can keep track of open and resolved FAFSA issues HERE.

Si tanto el estudiante como los padres/tutores designados tienen una identificación FSA verificada: 

  • Los estudiantes deberán traer su dispositivo electrónico y cargador. 
  • Lleve consigo los documentos que se enumeran a continuación. 
    • Impuestos federales 2022 de Padre(s)/tutor(es) 
    • W-2 2022 de Padre(s)/tutor(es) 
    • Impuestos federales del estudiante de 2022 (si presentaron impuestos) 
    • Formulario W-2 2022 del estudiante (si trabajó en un trabajo aparte de CWSP en 2022) 

Si los padres/tutores designados NO han creado una identificación FSA o al menos uno de los padres/tutores no tiene un número de seguro social: 

No recomendamos que se una a nosotros para un taller de FAFSA todavía porque no podrá enviarlo. Incluso con cuentas verificadas, si un padre no tiene un SSN, los estudiantes no podrán presentar su FAFSA. Ofreceremos más talleres para familias que no puedan presentarse en este momento. 

Mientras tanto, recomendamos lo siguiente: 

  • ¡Sigue intentando crear la FSA ID! Algunas de nuestras familias han tenido éxito en la creación de sus FSA ID después de numerosos intentos. Algunos consejos incluyen: 
    • Intentar en diferentes dispositivos electrónicos 
    • Intentar diferentes navegadores de Internet 
    • Pasar de “incógnito” mientras estás en un navegador
