Nemeth Memorial Scholarship (OPEN)

The Joseph Nemeth Memorial Scholarship honors a beloved former Chemistry teacher who taught for eight years at Cristo Rey before unexpectedly passing away in September of 2010. Cristo Rey students will find his name on the honorary 22nd Place street sign outside the school.

Attending law school at night, preparing to serve in the military on the weekends, coaching the softball team after school, and still preparing to teach class the next day: Mr. Nemeth made sure not to waste time - he took initiative and made the most of his life and the lives of those he loved.

In memory of Mr. Nemeth, a $1,000 scholarship toward tuition will be awarded to up to four different students each year with a parent or guardian who is making an effort to continue their own education, like Mr. Nemeth did – taking initiative and risk while overcoming challenges to make the most of life and the lives of their loved ones. Scholars will be selected by the Nemeth family.
