Nemeth Memorial Scholarship (CLOSED)

The Joseph Nemeth Memorial Scholarship honors a beloved former Chemistry teacher who taught for eight years at Cristo Rey before unexpectedly passing away in September of 2010. Cristo Rey students will find his name on the honorary 22nd Place street sign outside the school.

Preparing to serve in the military on the weekends and in night school and coaching the softball team while teaching chemistry to students at Cristo Rey: Mr. Nemeth lived a life of service to his country, community, and those he loved.

In memory of Mr. Nemeth, a $2,500 scholarship toward tuition will be awarded to up to at least two different students each year for service to the community - school, church, neighborhood, city, and beyond. Scholars will be selected by the Nemeth family.

Eligibility and Obligations:

  • Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Have exceptional school and job attendance
  • Demonstrate exceptional dedication and passion for service -  to the school, church, neighborhood, city, and beyond (preference for students who serve the community beyond our school and show leadership growth)
  • Post a written reflection on DoSomethingDay.Net to celebrate Mr. Nemeth's birthday, or "Do Something Day" for his family, this November 15.
